Qian Zhongshu＇s study on the ancient Chinese culture of dreams, under the influence of Freud Sigrnund＇s psychoanalysis, is a study that blends both the Chinese and western methods. The study, therefore, is not only distinctively characterized by the time and the nation, but also illuminates a way to research the differ- ences between the methods, used in love poems, of the Chinese and western depiction of dreams. It paves the way for the modem research in the culture of dreams in China, and for the traditional Chinese culture to be understood by the world.
