Humor is different from other kinds of communication with its complexity and so is the process of its understanding andreasoning.Humor,which is formed on the basis of incongruity-resolution theory and Relevance Theory,can be appreciated fromfour cognitive pragmatics’perspectives.English learners can be compensated emotionally for their additional effort making in theanalysis and appreciation of the English verbal humors.So the analysis and appreciation of the English verbal humors can helpstimulate second language learners’integrative motivation.
