地球科学和技术是人类文化的重要方面,它为人类认识地球,增进人类利益作出了伟大的贡献。现在,地球已经进入新的地质时代——"人类世"时代,我们需要有新的地学文化。现代地球科学被认为是自然科学,"人类世"时代的地球是人类学的地球,需要地球的社会科学研究,需要地球的自然科学与社会科学结合,科学精神和人文精神结合,开展地球的人文社会科学研究和实践,建构新的地学文化,为建设生态文明的和谐社会与和谐世界服务。

Science and technology of the earth constitute an important part of human culture. It has made great contribution to human knowledge of the earth and to promotion of human benefit. Now that the earth had entered a new geoage,we need a new geoscience culture. Modern geoscience is regarded as a natural science. The earth of the new geoage,as the earth of anthropology,requires studies of the social sciences of the earth. Also,it calls for a combination of studies of the natural sciences of the earth with those of the social sciences,and a combination of scientific spirit with human spirit. In addition,it is necessary to conduct study and practice of the humanities of the earth and to construct a new geoscience culture so as to facilitate the building up of a harmonious society and a harmonious world characterized by ecocivilization.
