As one of the most important American poets in the 20th century,Robert Frost has been attracting generations of readers and critics. He never made a systematic study of versification. We can only gain some insights into his perceptions through his letters, prefaces and interviews."Sound of sense" is the core of Frost's aesthetics and embodies his opinions on nature, language and imagination, constituting a reaction against Imagism and its concentration on the visual. With the sparkling quality of "sound of sense" in his poetry,Frost stands out—along with T.S.Eliot,Ezra Pound, and Wallace Stevens—as one of the founders of Modernism.
