Kakinomoto no Hitomaro was one of Japan' s famous singers during the period of Man-yo, whose works representing the ideology of"A mikado should be considered as God "have exerted huge impact on Japan both in the past and in the present. The ideology can be interpreted as a belief of mikado as "god" instead of a mortal, which in fact is very different from the traditional ideology of "the separation between the mortal and god". Then why did Kakinomoto no Hitomaro come up with such an idea of "A mikado should be considered as God "despite the fact that the time period he was living in clearly separated mortals from god? The author of this paper proposes that the generation of such a new idea cannot be separated from the ancient Chinese idea about immortals.
