审美现代性的要义之一,是对个体的绝对尊重,随着大一统的意识形态的崩解、文化的多元化导致个人主义迅猛发展,由此产生的现象之一是影视作品中各种异类极端体验的表现增多,但其文化后果是个体与个体之间越来越难以沟通,个人被分离为都市社会中的"孤岛"。好莱坞主流电影试图以普泛化的"共同人性"来弥合文化、种族、阶级、性别等差异,消除个体之间的隔阂。但"人性"作为一个较为低浅的公共平台,难以真正缝合现代性文化中个人主义与公共价值的疏离。
