Issues and Challenges with English Language Teacher Education and Professional Development in China

本文立足于中国英语教师教育的现实,探讨英语教师职前培养和英语教师专业发展所面临的问题和挑战。作者认为,部分师范院校存在"去师范化"的倾向,职前教师培养与中小学英语教学实际相脱离等,是目前中国英语教师职前培养中所面临的严峻挑战。职后英语教师专业发展,面临尚未建立系统的教师专业发展支持体系及教师自身专业发展意识不够强等问题。本文旨在通过分析现状和问题,为进一步促进中国英语教师教育的发展提出建议。

This paper discusses the issues and challenges with pre-service English language teacher education and in-service English language teacher professional development in China based on an analysis of the current situation in China＇s English language teacher education. The authors hope that such discussions will bring the problems and challenges to the attention of policy-makers, teacher education researchers and classroom English teachers. It is al~ hoped that discussions like these will lead to constructive suggestions for the improvement of English language teacher education in China.
