An Explanation of"Guguguan"

古代蒙古妇女头饰孛黑塔，汉文文献称为罟罟冠，并有故故、固故等同音异写，但这不是蒙古语音译。罟罟冠是蒙古族平民妇女的头饰，以柳条或铁丝作骨架，盘作高髻，饰以羽毛，元朝建国前已见使用。後贵族妇女装饰以特制的雉尾。汉人对蒙元妇女头戴雉尾冠好奇，戏称为罟罟冠。“罟罟”是鸡鸣鸟语的象声词。

The ancient Mongolian women's headdress 'Boheita'孛黑塔, known as'Guguguan'罟罟冠 or 故故,固故 in Chinese documents, are not the Mongolian transliteration. Guguguan,the bun framed with wicker or wire,decorated with feathers,was the headdress wore by Mongolian common women before the founding of the Yuan Dynasty. Later the noble women decorated it with special pheasant's tail. Han people were curious about it and called it 'Guguguan'which is the onomatopoeia of pheasant's tweet.
