Western Missionaries' Indigenous Discourse in the Early 20^(th) Century China

20世纪二三十年代,中国基督徒掀起了一场声势浩大的本色化运动,其目的是消除基督教的"洋教"色彩,使之适应中国化的处境。在华的西方传教士始终参与了这一过程。部分开明的传教士检讨自身存在的问题,主张在传教方式与态度上作出相应的调整,提出了建立本色教会的主张;但也有部分传教士对此表示忧虑与抵制。他们的这场讨论在某种程度上确立了本色化教会的底线,对中国教会的本色化产生了重要影响。

In the early 20th century,Chinese Christians launched a massive Indigenous Movement,aimed at eliminating ＂foreign Christian＂ and fitting it into Chinese situation.To which the attitudes among the western missionaries were different,some enlightened missionaries advocated to adjusting the traditional missionary method and helped establish a Chinese church,but a few of them also showed their worry and resistance.To some extent this debate delineated and impacted on the baseline of the Indigenous Movement.
