体育催生民族情感、加强民族认同,是研究体育与民族主义关系的经典范式。然而体育与民族主义绝非简单的线性关系,本土化的民族体育可推进或分化当地民族认同的进程。认同的分割性导致种族、阶级、性别成为影响体育与民族主义关系的调节变量。全球化时代,体育充当了文化帝国主义的工具,也成为非西方国家维护民族文化的利器。

Sports can cultivate national feelings and strengthen national identity which is the classic paradigm of researching relations between sports and nationalism. However, their relations is not simple as one dimension, local national sports could improve or divide process of national identity. The division of identity results in ethnicity, class and gender becoming regulated variable of sports and nationalism. In globalization times, sports are regard as instrument of cultural imperialism ; on the other hand, sports become swords of keeping national culture of Non - western nations.
