Research on the Origin and Development of Mount E-mei Buddhism

早期的峨眉山是作为道教名山而存在的,被称为道教第七洞天。东汉蒲公故事系宋人伪造,峨眉山佛教滥觞于东晋时期高僧慧持入山建普贤寺。峨眉山曾长期处于佛道并存格局,明清以降,才演变成为佛教名山。

Mt.E-mei is a famous Taoist mountain in the early years,and known as the seventh cave paradise.The story of Pu Gong was fabricated in Song Dynasty.E-mei Buddhism was originated in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.The Senior Monk Hui Chi constructed the first temple of Bodhisattva Samantabhadra.Buddhism and Taoism coexist in Mt.E-mei for a long period.Mt.E-mei evolved into a famous Buddhist mountain after the Ming and Qing Dynasty.
