《螽斯》为周南人祝贵族子孙众多之作,《桃夭》为周南贵族嫁女之乐歌,《兔罝》为周南人惋惜武士难以逢世为国尽力之作,三诗当为周平王东迁(前770年)前后所作;其创作年代上限不会早于西周晚期的周幽王之世(前780年-前771年),下限不会晚于春秋初期的周平王之世(前770年-前720年)。

The Locust was written by the people of Southern Zhou region for praying for aristocrats to have many descendants.The Beautiful Peach was sung when the aristocrat of Southern Zhou region married off his daughter.The Hunting Net was written because the people of Southern Zhou region regretted that warriors were born at the wrong time so they couldn＇t serve their country.Three poems were written round about the time of Zhou Ping King moved in east（770 BC）,the upper limit of their written time was not earlier than the times of Zhou You King（780 BC-771 BC） in the latter part of Western Zhou Dynasty,the lower limit of their written time was not later than the times of Zhou Ping King（770 BC-720 BC） in the initial stage of Spring and Autumn Period.
