As late as last March,Jim Coulter, the founding partner of one of the world's largest private equities,was concerned about the vague understanding local China governments had about the Texas Pacific Group(TPG).Only five months later,he,along with senior government officials from Shanghai and Chongqing,announced cooperation between TPG and the governments of these two important economic centers. Distancing themselves from acquisitions in favor of buying shares in growthoriented companies shows TPG's move towards a more Chinese methodology.
