An Overview of Anthropological Studies of Rural China in the West

摘要西方对中国社会进行系统的研究是在文艺复兴和工业革命后,随着欧洲强国向海外进行殖民扩张后,才逐步展开的,并受到西方各国统治者的鼓励和支持,成为关注中国的政治、经济、文化、社会、军事、地理、哲学、宗教、语言、历史及风物等领域的研究学科,跨越自然、社会和人文学科。文章重点从社会文化人类学的角度,追述西方对中国乡村研究的历程,讨论其主要著作、理论、研究方法、最新研究动态、热点与争议及代表性学者(包括海外华人学者)。 The systematic study of Chinese society in the west started after the Renaissance and Industrial Revolution.It came with the colonial expansion of the western powers.It was promoted and supported by the rulers of the countries in the west.It has developed into a field of study on China＇s politics,economics,culture,society,military,geography,philosophy,religion,language,history and customs and etc.It involves natural,social and humanity sciences.This paper reviews the study of rural China in the west from the perspectives of socio-cultural anthropology and discusses its major theories,methods,development trends,hot topics and debates,representative scholars（including oversea Chinese scholars）and their works.
