本文从几个不同但是彼此关联的方面驳斥了世界著名语言学家和翻译家彼得·纽马克的观点:英语是世界上最好的语言。文中所有的例句都是来自英语(作者的第一外语)和汉语(作者的母语),还有日语和德语(分别是作者的第二外语和第四外语)。通过举例和分析,最后得出结论:英语远远谈不上是世界做好的语言。

In the paper,the author challenges the remarks of Peter Newmark that English is the best language in the world from several different and relevant linguistic layers.All the examples given by the author are mainly from English itself and Chinese —the author＇s mother tongue and Japanese and German as well—another two languages which the author learned as the second foreign language and the fourth language.Through the given examples and careful analysis,it is concluded that English is far from being the best language on earth.
