影像地层学的基本原理是根据遥感图像记录的岩石地层反射（辐射）波谱差异构成的影像特征来进行地层研究。它以多重地层划分为指导，通过影像界面识别、地层接触关系分析、岩相识别、影像剖面结构分析、地层格架解译等影像地层学研究方法。

This paper puts forward a new conception of image stratigraphy based on multiple stratigraphical classification. By way of image boundary and stratigraphical classification, stratigraphical contact relation analysis, the section texture, the changes of lithofacies, stratigraphical framework interpretation, stratigraphical division and correlection can be realized.
