John Fowles is an important and influential novelist in contemporary Britain and his masterpiece The French Lieutenant＇s Woman upon its publication has been acclaimed by critics.This thesis tends to analyze the heroine Sarah in the perspective of feminism criticism,by focusing on her rebellion and subversion to the traditional women imagery in Victorian Age,and to explore the constantly enhancement of Sarah＇s female consciousness and her everlasting pursuit of equality and freedom.
