Li Bai and the Sea

有着海般壮阔的功业之心和博大艺术情怀的李白,一生对大海情有独钟,在踏遍大半个中国的漫游足迹中,不乏朝向海的旅程。现以时间为线索,纵向地考论他在开元中期、末期以及天宝末年三次朝向海边的漫游事迹及其有关意象,揭示其建功立业的人生设计中由文治到武功的心态变化。

Li Bai,broad-minded and artistically turned,had much fondness for the sea in his lifetime,which can be well illustrated by his frequent seaward travels.An examination into his deeds and images revealed by his seaward trips taken in the middle and late period of the Kaiyuan reign and the late period of Tianbao reign respectively shows the change in his attitude regarding his career planning： his emphasis on intellectual accomplishments giving way to that on military and martial feats.
