The time about Yao Dian being completed has always been controversial. The record of the Yinxu's oracle bone inscriptions shows that some knowledge of the astronomy and calendar before Shang Dynasty was recorded in Yao Dian. The starlike image at four seasons recorded in Yao Dian was the "culminant star at evening". In the earlier times, Chinese and foreign scholars used equator method to calculate the astronomical age of this starlike image of Yao D/an, but the heavenly canopy hypothesis was prevalent before the Western Han Dynasty, so using the equator method wasn't suitable. In accordance with the records of related document, the horizon method was adopted to recover the right ascension of evening star in the Yao Dian and assert that it was completed about 4200 years ago, which basically conforms to the age of Emperor Yao.
