Kymlicka＇s book is a liberal rejoinder to the communitarian critics of liberalism in the 1980s, the emergence of which was effectuated by such prominent figures as Walzer, MacIntyre, Taylor and Sandel. Now to this general debate is there anything new that Kymlicka has contributed？ To avoid misunderstanding and the so-called ＂cross-purposes, ＂ it will be useful to start by introducing Kymlicka＇s own arguments.
