摘要
This book is not a simple collection of papers or a normally edited monograph. It was the result of a series of remarkable cross-Strait exchanges and collaboration, including a joint seminar entitled “A Comparative Study of Village and Township： Theory and Practice” held at the University of Macao in December 2006 and two follow-up workshops conducted in Taiwan which involved some 60 experts yielding two dozen papers and presentations. The preparation of this book entailed yet another seminar held in China in July 2007, joined by scholars, local officials, and resident representatives.
