Beginning with introducing the formulas for calculating the flow area of the grooved ball-chamber of the closed valve bonnet on sucker rod pumps, this article presents the procedure for selecting the main parameters of the chamber: 1.take the valve ball diameter D =0.7D_B-3.6( herein D_B is the pump diameter); 2.take the guide diameter D_1 = 1.04D; 3.take the bonnet outside diameter D_2= D_B- 1.5; 4.take the groove milling cutter diameter d= 0.63 D for four-groove chamber and d = 0.77 D for three-groove chamber; 5. calculate the ball chamber flow area S; 6. determine by nomograph the groove bottom diameter D_3; 7. check the parameters p, C, C/D, d_0 and d_0/d, if necessary.
