In light of the basic principle of mechanical transmission, the authors give an overall appraisal of the planetary gears in an Allison transmission in the aspects of structure, motion, torque, efficiency and power, and point out that the design features of these gears lie in their optimum structural parameters and good machinability, the reliable service, and the smoothness of power shifting.
