The authors, by way of example, introduce a method for calculating the reliability of the crank pin on pumping units, make a probability analysis of the reliability of the critical section of the crank pin on the basis of load analysis, and point out that, while taking the load distribution, strength distribution and servicc, factors into account, the designer will obtain a result more conform to reality than using a single safety factor commonly used. This method can also be used to predict the failure probability of the crank pin.
