摘要
近20年来，分形的研究受到非常广泛的重视，其原因在于分形既有深刻的理论意义，又有巨大的实用价值，使其吸引着人们寻求其中可能存在的新规律和新特征。本文首先概括地介绍了分形编码技术的产生与发展，其次阐述了它的原理与算法特性，最后对它的应用情况进行了分析和展望。
In this paper the authors first introduce the principle of fortal coding, and then reviewits origin and development. They further elaborate on the basic coding algorithm, and finallyanalyze its current application and predict its prospective progress.
