The United States and Taiwan's Democratization

在美国的推动下,台湾地区完成了所谓的"民主转型"。本质上,台湾地区所谓的民主政治是一种植入性、依附性甚至是功利性的民主。就台湾本身而言,其民主是在美国压力之下强加进来、不得不为的结果,因此也可以说是一种依附于美国的民主。从美国来讲,压迫和扶持台湾实现民主化转型,更多的是为了其"和平演变"中国大陆的目的。换言之,美国之所以不遗余力地推动台湾的民主进程,其真实意图在于台湾可以作为"和平演变"中国大陆的跳板与前沿。在这样的背景之下,台湾地区民主化进程中存在的问题和局限如"选举政治"、统"独"纷争等,可以得到更深刻的解读。

From the Taiwan Residents view, their democracy is the result of U. S. pressure and so it adheres to American support. In other words j to make a domocratic Taiwan is the main way to change the Chinese mainland. To sum up, the U.S. real object is to change China under its will and Taiwan is its hset tool. In this sense, some problems and limits in Taiwan＇s democratization, such as the so-called voting politics and the controversy on reunification and secession, can be more deeply understood and explained.
