Dear JEEEV Contributors, Readers and Friends,This issue of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration （Vol. 9, No. 3） includes five papers that were presented at the 4th International Symposium on Environmental Vibration （ISEV 2009）. The symposium provided an international forum to exchange knowledge, ideas and experiences in research on prediction, control and mitigation of environmental vibrations. The papers represent original contributions to an interesting area within the scope of engineering vibrations. We thank Prof. Xia He from Beijing Jiaotong University, who was the chairman of ISEV 2009, for his support and assistance in selecting some of the high quality manuscripts that appear in this issue.
