摘要
This thesis tries to explore the novel with the view of cultural identity and multiculturalism.Facing the multicultural American society,Gish Jen voices her strong support for American multiculturalism as symbolized by "American salad bowl" in the novel Typical American,and insists that contemporary Americans should try to be new Americans by blending the best of various cultures existing in the United States.
