Toni Morrison's Imagination about Black Males

为了探讨黑人女性的生存状态和精神突围,托妮·莫里森塑造了一系列具有不同行为和意识模式的黑人男性形象。历时性分析莫里森小说中的黑人男性,发现作家对黑人男性的想象呈现渐次"递增"的三个阶段,从黑人男性规避责任的逃离,到逃离之后的反省,再到经历逃离和反省后的回归,其"递增"性表明后一阶段对前一阶段既有包容,更有延展,体现出莫里森的女性主义思想由激进至温和到最后温情的转变过程。

In order to examine the existence and spiritual breakthrough of black females, Toni Morrison has portrayed a number of black males of various behavior and thinking patterns. This paper conducts a diachronic study of the black males in Morrison＇ s novels and shows that Morrison＇ s imagination about black males has undergone three phases i. e. black males＇ escape from their responsibilities, their reflection following the escape, their return after the escape and reflection. It is also discovered that each latter phase not only contains but also extends the previous one to reveal the changes in Morrison＇ s feminist thoughts which used to be radical become mild and finally warm.
