希腊马其顿帝国亚历山大大帝及其继承者和古埃及托勒密王朝的法老们经过一代又一代的努力,在地中海南岸埃及的一个小村庄建起了亚历山大城和亚历山大图书馆。亚历山大城、尤其是亚历山大图书馆像一块巨大的"磁石",吸引了欧洲、非洲、亚洲乃至世界各地的学者,使该城很快成为东西方文化交融地,并对后世文化产生了深刻影响。但同时,亚历山大图书馆的突然消失也给后人留下了诸多未解之谜。
After generations of efforts made by Alexander the Great of the Macedonian Empire of ancient Greece and his successors, and by the Pharaohs of the Ptolemaic Empire of ancient Egypt, the City of Alexandria and the Library of Alexandria were built in a small Egyptian village on the southern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The City of Alexandria, especially the Library of Alexandria had acted as a huge magnet attracting the scholars from Europe, Africa, Asia and the world wide and making the city rapidly became the place of blending of the Eastern and the Western cultures, and exerted significant influence on later cultures. But at the same time, its sudden disappearance left the later generations many riddles to solve.
