The basic hardware structure of the locomotive fault monitoring system was listed- The main functions of the intelligent display unit （IDU） were introduced. Combined with the actual project＇s need, the key steps of the development process by Platform Builder5.0 were expounded. The application was developed by C# language in Visual Studio 2005 IDE.
