摘要
20世纪初,中国文学界对文学的认识出现了"纯美"与"功利"两途。这两种认识一方面并存着,并各有沿着自身思路展开的理论探讨与创作实践;另一方面,更为普遍的现象是,出现了两者之间的调和,从而形成了一种有限度的文学功能理论。周作人早期的文学思想,事实上也处于这样一种调和之中:一方面,虽然在精英知识分子的立场下强调文学的社会功能,却反对将这种社会功能强调到极致,因而从反面强调文学的独立地位,并使文学与政治等领域保持距离;另一方面,对文学独立地位的强调又并不隔绝他对现实社会思想、文化的关注,因而在创作上强调一种严肃的文学态度,并使其文学观念与纯美的艺术理论区别开来。这样一种调和的文学态度影响到了他此后的文化立场,并对其散文写作,产生深远的影响。
In the early 20th century,"pure beauty" and "utility" were the two different understandings in the Chinese literary circle,which kept along with each other with their respective theoretical discussion and creative practice.Nevertheless,more often,both of them reached a conciliating harmony,thereby forming a limited theory of literary function.In fact,Zhou Zuoren's early literary thought was in a similar state.On one hand,he took the position of elite intellectuals to emphasize the independence of literature and keep literature apart from politics.On the other hand,he held that the independence of literature should not neglect its concern for realistic social ideas and culture by insisting on the adoption of a serious literary attitude,which distinguished his literary ideas from the art theory of pure beauty.Such a conciliating attitude had a great impact on his cultural stance and his prose writing.
