On the Essayistic Value of Parallel Prose in the Reigns of Qianlong and Jiaqing

乾嘉时期的文人和经士出于不同的原因,以改革文章写作模式为共同目的,使骈文创作兴于一时,他们对骈文采用了独特的视角,把骈文放在文章发展的源流中进行考察,发掘出它对文章创作的积极元素。虽然,当时人的骈文创作几乎以模仿为主,没有形成清骈文的特点,但对于文章创作的探索而言,他们在对骈文的研究中提出了很多有效的建议,促成了清代文风的转变。

The literators and Jingshis shared one goal of reforming mode of article writing, due to their respective considerations. The creation of parallel prose was prevailing for a time. From their unique perspectives, they started to examine parallel prose in the headstreams of essayistie progress and dig out its positive factors for article writing. Although the creation of parallel prose at that time was mostly based on imitation and failed to form prose with the characteristics of the Qing Dynasty, the exploration of article writing and effective suggestions they put forward in the research of parallel prose had promoted the changes of writing style of the Qing Dynasty.
