Small World,an important novel by David Lodge,a distinguished contemporary British novelist and literary critic,pictures the academia with his distinct insight and humor.Skillfully employing his knowledge in literary and literal theories,Lodge,in the novel,works out multi-layered motifs including academic world,romance and pilgrimage.To illustrate its enduring high artistry,the essay attempts to analyze the motifs from the perspective of social,historical and personal background.
