The Essence of Extensive English Reading

In the actual teaching practice of the extensive reading course,teachers often fail to see or unconsciously neglect the real essence of extensive reading and transforms extensive reading course into a second intensive reading course.As a result,after years of study,many students still have not been cultivated a habit of reading English materials extensively and quickly;and instead of finding pleasure in reading English articles and novels,many of them have particular fear even hatred in reading materials in the English original.This essay summarizes a research the author carried out with a Tourism English major class in her extensive reading teaching.The results of the research tends to show that certain proper methodology adopted by the teacher can fundamentally affect the attitudes of the students to reading English materials and can greatly help to improve their reading ability.
