Three Trading Markets in Guangxi and Foreign Trade of Hainan Island in Song Dynasty

宋代广南西路得到相当程度的开发。南宋时,广南西路对外贸易有了较大发展,尤以横山寨、永平寨、钦州三大博易场和海南岛为其典型代表。横山寨是交通西南诸国和少数民族政权的孔道,贸易内容主要是"广马"。永平寨、钦州,一由陆路、一由水路与交趾发生外贸联系。其中钦州的蜀锦、蕃香交易更蔚为大观。海南岛则由于其特殊的地理位置主要从事转口贸易。

In Song Dynasty, Guangxi was highly developed. Especially in South Song Dynasty, foreign trade got great boom with Hengshan Zhai, Yongping Zhai, Qinzhou, and Hainan Island as its prominent representatives. Hengshan Zhai was the stronghold on the way to communicate Song government and other southwest countries and minority regimes. Large horse transactions were dealt with there. Yongping Zhai, by landway, and Qinzhou, by coastal harbor, were two markets facing Jiaozhi. There were splendid and magnificent trades of Sichuan damask and spices from foreign countries in Qinzhou market. Hainan Island, for its special geological position, mostly carried on transit trade.
