论赫师慎、佩初兹、葛式对中国古代数学的认识

On Studies by Van Hée,Petrucci,and Gauchet on Ancient Chinese Mathematics

20世纪初期欧洲汉学家赫师慎、佩初兹和葛式在国际权威汉学杂志《通报》上发表了一系列关于中国古代数学的文章。这些文章反映了他们对中国古代数学成就的认识,也反映了当时欧洲汉学界对中国古代数学成就普遍持有的两种对立态度,一是武断地怀疑某些中国古代数学成就源自域外,认为中国数学劣于西方数学;二是肯定中国古代数学的光辉成就,并认为中西数学各有其长处和特色,应平等视之,这也是当时西方汉学界的代表态度。

At the beginning of the 20th century,among European sinologists there were two opposite attitudes towards the achievements of ancient Chinese mathematics.Some sinologists attributed the achievements of ancient Chinese mathematics to the influence of other civilizations,believing that Chinese mathematics was inferior to western mathematics,while the others thought positively of Chinese mathematics,believing that western and Chinese mathematics both have their own characteristics and uniqueness and should be treated equally.By examining the mathematical articles published in the authorized international sinological journal T＇oung Pao by three representative sinologists,this article explores the controversies over ancient Chinese mathematics in the hope of shedding light on the study of the attitudes of sinologists towards ancient Chinese civilization.
