《辞源》(修订本)是当时影响最大,时人阅读古代典籍无可替代的权威工具书。但由于历史的局限,它还存在着不能尽如人意的地方,比如在通假字解释方面就存在着以通假字术语说解异体字、同源字、古今字和本借字互倒等缺欠。

Source of Words （revised edition）is an authoritative reference book that not only made a great impact at its birth but is a required book when people read ancient works at present.But this dictionary still has some unsatisfactory aspects due to historical limitations.Taking some explanations of interchangeable characters as an example,terms of interchangeable characters in some cases are used to explain variant forms of a character,synonym,different meanings in the ancient and present time.And some borrowed characters are taken for the former uses.
