武则天时代与刘知几《史通》的撰著

The prosperous cultural milieu in the early period of the Tang Dynasty has helped Liu Zhiji have a good scholarly culti- vation.He then became an official through the entrance examination.But he got famous during Wu Zetian period due to his advice to the empress,whose commands availed him of an opportunity to compile historical books.It is until Emperor Zhong Zong period that Liu Zhiji ’s masterpiece Shitong came into being in spite of troubles found in the process of compilation.In the survey of Liu Zhiji ’s life,it is easy to see that Wu Zetian period is a crucial one for Liu Zhiji ’s career of historiography.Without this period,it would be impossible for him to compose such an important work Shitong.
