A Rhetorical Analysis on Google Affair

2010年伊始,中美关系就暗潮涌动。谷歌退出中国的事件又在中美两国间掀起了一场"修辞的战争"。在分析这一场没有硝烟的"战争",西方修辞学理可以提供更深入的视角。在通过分析中美主要媒体对此事的报道以及这些报道所产生的效果,不难得出修辞者能否对指控做出及时正确的反应,能否对"事实"持有灵活的观念以及能否调控受众的情感态度,将对修辞效果产生极大的影响。

The very beginning of the year 2010 has witnessed a series of ups and downs in the Sino-US relations.The event that Google quit China has waged another ＂rhetorical war＂ between China and America.To better analyze this ＂silent war＂,western rhetoric would provide us with some thought-provoking insights.Through analyzing relevant reports from major Chinese and American media as well as the effectiveness they have achieved,we can safely arrive at the conclusion that whether a rhetor can make an appropriate and rapid response to charges brought against him/her;can hold a flexible towards attitude ＂fact＂ and can adjust and control the audience＇s emotion will exert great influence on the rhetorical effects.
