Objective To investigate the correlation of pulse pressure index and early renal injury in senile patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 102 patients were divided into the hypertension and diabetes group(n=52) and hypertension control group(n=50).All the patients received ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and urine microprotein detection.Pulse pressure, pulse pressure index and urine microprotein levels were compared between two groups. The correlations of pulse pressure index with urine microprotein and glycosylated hemoglobin were analyzed between two groups. Results Glucolated hemoglobin, pulse pressure, pulse pressure index and urine microprotein levels in the hypertension and diabetes group were obviously higher than those in control group(P0.05).The correlation coefficient of pulse pressure index with urine microprotein was higher in the hypertension and diabetes group than that in control group.Pulse pressure index was positively correlated to glycosylated hemoglobin(r=0.503,P0.05).Conclusion Diabetes partially influences pulse pressure.Pulse pressure index has a high predictive value to early renal injury in senile patients with hypertension and diabetes.
