In comparison with traditional scriptures,Daoist immortal tales can offer more precise descriptions of the populace＇s Daoist consciousness and tendency,as well as the development of Daoism in different historical periods.By analyzing the tales,the paper discusses the development and diversification of the image and character of immortals,the changing relationship between Daoist immortals and ordinary people,and the various ideas of ethical principles in different stages of Daoism.It also studies diversified religious elements which influence the conceptual evolution of Daoist immortals as a whole.
