南宋孝宗禅位于光宗。光宗刚愎自用,拒言玩谏,父子失合;纵容皇后李氏,干涉政权;任用小人,政局黑暗不堪。彭龟年多次直言其弊。孝宗死后,光宗拒不主丧。朝中骚动,人心散失,彭龟年伏地叩额苦谏,不为所获。彭龟年认为唯有建储,才可稳定政局。后又拥立嘉王(即后来的宁宗)即位。彭龟年作为这一历史时期的见证者和参与者,以他的活动及言行为视角,可更深入解读绍熙政局。

Song Xiaozong had abdicated and handed over the crown to Guangzong. Guangzong was self-willed and refused to accept advices, winked at his wife interferring affairs of the state; appointed people by favouritism and became estranged with Xiaozong, all above mentioned factors, resulted in the dark of political situation. Peng Guinian spoke bluntly his faults many times. When Xiaozong dead, Guangzong refused the charge of funeral arrangements and lost all the popular sympathy. Peng Guinian presented his advices hardly. He bumped forehead against brick for a long time. Lately Peng Guinian suggested making the the son of Guangzong-prince of Jia the crown prince. And then Peng Guinian supported the prince of Jia to ascend the crown.Taking Peng Guinian as visual angel, it is of advantage to understand the situation of Guangzong Dynasty.
