The ruling Democratic Party of Japan(DPJ) won only 106 seats in the Senate election held on July 11, a decrease from the previous 116 seats. The number of seats gained by the Minshu-Kokumin ruling coalition falls short of 50%, even plus that of the former "ally" Social Democratic Party.
