Everyone is trying to get a piece of the 'New Medical Reform' pie, even as it is being baked. Since the program's introduction in April 2009, the pharmaceutical industry has become one of the most talked about areas among all types of investors. Some have even predicted that the 'golden decade' of the real estate industry is about to give way to a new 'golden decade' for the pharmaceutical industry. Although there are already those who have benefited from the New Medical Reform program, those with a discerning eye can already find some problems. Those who are currently enjoying their slice of the pie are really just the old enterprises of the old order and old system. In reality, China's medical industry has undergone no major changes, and the marketization of the industry has been very weak. During an interview with China Entrepreneur magazine on September 30th, Yu Mingde, Executive Chairman of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Enterprises Association, made this comment concerning the progress made during the past year and a half of reform: 'The policy of the New Medical Reform, to this day, is still not very clear.'
