Talking About the Development and Creation of the Mourning Writings in Southern Dynasties

诔文兴盛于汉代,历经魏、晋以迄南朝,渐呈衰微之势。南朝诔文继承了汉魏晋以来诔文重抒情、求审美的传统,抒发个体主观性情更为深刻突出,行文高度骈化,藻采纷呈,用典繁密,音律协畅,对偶精工,与时文风气完全相合。南朝文人过于强调诔文的审美价值,相应地,其实用价值在很大程度上被弱化。

The mourning writings thrived in Han Dynasties. From Wei,Jin Dynasties to southern dynasties,it was always in decline. The mourning writings in southern dynasties inherited the tradition of attaching importance to heavy sentiment and pursuing for the aesthetic value from Han,Wei and Jin Dynasties. The mourning writings in Southern Dynasties expressed individual emotion more deeply and outstandingly,adopting parallel style,luxuriant words,numerous allusions,harmonious syllables and delicate antithesis,fully complying with the atmosphere of writings of the day. The writers in Southern Dynasties overemphasized the aesthetic value of the mourning writings and accordingly its practical value was largely weakened.
