The recent development of polarization-maintaining fiber eoupler（PMFC）is reviewed. The important parameters of PMFC fabricated by some of principal manufacturers are compared. The applications of PMFC in fiberoptic gyroscopes and hydrophones are introduced. It is concluded that fiber-optic sensors will be widely used in many fields in future,and this gives rise to the development of the PMFC.
