摘要
美国华裔流散作家哈金是一位多产的作家,多次获得美国文学界的重要奖项。2005年哈金凭借其《战争垃圾》再次获得海明威笔会作品奖。在这部作品中,哈金塑造了俞元这一现代知识分子形象,阐扬现代知识分子的社会责任：知识分子应积极地介入现实政治和社会实践;知识分子应站在人民群众的立场上向权贵说真话;知识分子应是文化的传播者和思想的启蒙者。俞元这一形象,在当今中国具有一定的现实意义。
Among all Chinese American overseas diasporic writers,Ha Jin is not only a prolific one but also a winner of a large number of great prizes in American literary circle.In 2005,his novel War Trash,in which he depicted the image of modern intellectual-Yu Yuan,won the PEN/Hemingway Prize again.In this novel,Ha Jin illustrated the social responsibilities of modern intellectuals： intellectuals should actively participate in the real politics and social practices;intellectuals should speak truth to the power on behalf of the masses;intellectuals should convey knowledge to and enlighten the common people.The image of Yu Yuan,nowadays,assumes practical significance.
