Based on engineering geological evaluations and surrounding rock stability analysis during construction on underground complex caverns of hydropower project, some aspects are described in this paper , including principles and contents of monitoring design and construction , selection of monitoring items and instruments , instrument embedment and observation methods, determination of monitoring points and main monitoring amount , data acquisition and data interpretation methods and capable functions of suitable sofewares.
