在当前文化多元化、价值多元化的社会体系下,多元民主成为社会发展的趋势。在多元民主社会下允许各种合乎理性的宗教学说、哲学学说和道德学说长期存在,但同时各完备性学说之间也存在着冲突。针对这种现实情况,罗尔斯提出了重叠共识的理念来解决各种完备性学说之间所产生的分歧与冲突,以维护社会的稳定与和谐。

In the current social system of cultural and value diversity, a pluralist democracy becomes a trend of social development. The pluralistic democratic society permits a long-term existence of various religious doctrines, philosophical and moral theories, but there are conflicts between comprehensive doctrines. In view of this reality, Rawls proposed a concept of overlapping consensus to resolve these differences in order to safeguard social stability and harmony.
